COATING SPECIFICATIONS
(SERIES 052-MZP-xxx)

The substrates listed in the table above can be coated with a large range of coatings. Here we will list the three basic laser coatings used on the 050 and 051 series and the manner in which they are specified.

Coating: LMZ 01-00-000
Angle
Center wavelength
in microns

This coating is a general UV multilayer dielectric mirror with R > 99.0% from 2600Å to 4000Å. The angle of incidence can be specified from 0° to 70°. The temperature range is 0° to 160°F. As an example, a maximum reflector for a cadmium laser at 3250Å at 30° incidence on a 76mm substrate is specified by 050-MZP-004 Coated: LMZ 01-30-325.

Coating: LMZ 10-00-000
Angle
Center wavelength
in microns

This coating is a visible multilayer dielectric mirror with R > 99% from 4000Å to 7000Å. The angle of incidence can be specified to 70°. Temperature range is -70°F to +250°F.

COATING: LMZ 20-00-000

This coating is a near infrared multilayer dielectric mirror with R > 99% from 7000Å to 2.5µ. The angle of incidence can be specified to 70°. The temperature range is from -70°F to +250°F.

For detailed specifications and typical transmission charts, see the coating section of this catalog.

STANDARD MIRROR COATINGS

Most of the general flat mirrors are coated for maximum reflection using a variety of metals usually overcoated with dielectric layers in order to enhance durability or increase reflection in a given spectral interval.

A large variety of coatings are available from our standard coating list. The most widely used coatings are briefly described. A full description of each of these coatings can be found in the coating section.

The following coatings are overcoated with a protective layer of a transparent dielectric material. This overcoating provides a surface rugged enough to permit optical cleaning and also protects the metal coating from the effects of tarnish and oxidation.

A. Aluminum Mirrors (GMP 01-00-.550)

Aluminum is the most commonly used metal for the UV, visible and near-infrared parts of the spectrum. For use in the visible spectrum, GMP 01-00-.550 is used and is overcoated with quartz.

For the UV spectrum, GMP 02-00-.300 consists of aluminum overcoated with magnesium fluoride for maximum reflectivity from 2000Å to 4000Å.

B. Enhanced Aluminum (GMP 06-00-.550)

The reflectivity of aluminum can be increased through a limited portion of the spectrum. GMP 06-00-.550 gives a visible enhancement of 96% over a spectral region from 4500Å to 7200Å but significantly less than GMP 01-00-.550 over the rest of the spectrum.

GMP 08-00-.300 is the UV enhanced version of the GMP 06-00-.550 and produces a UV reflection of 96% over the region from 2000Å to 4000Å.

C. Gold Mirrors (GMP 10-00-5.00)

Protected gold’s reflectivity is greater than 98% from 1.0µ to 9.0µ in the infrared. The overcoat is put on the gold in order to clean the mirrors by careful optical methods.

Note: Any of the 53, 54 or 55 series general flat mirrors may be coated with standard mirror coatings by specifying the substrate followed by the coating product number. For example, a 100mm square Pyrex® mirror, l/4 flat coated with protected gold is ordered as 53 MPU-017 coated with GMP 10-00-5.00.
