We manufacture large quantities of right angle prisms and can offer significant cost breaks on these items.
Note that the hypotenuse on all of these prisms is aluminized so that they can be used for large field angles or non-collimated beams. If for any reason you require an uncoated prism, this coating can be striped at no additional charge.
Any of our anti-reflective coatings can be applied to the entrance and exit faces. if you are using this prism in an unusual configuration, we would be happy to assist you in coating or aluminizing any combination of surfaces. A brief call to our Applications Engineers will quickly solve your problems.

*Aluminum can be removed, if desired, at no extra charge
PRISMS
A large percentage of our business is made up of non-catalog items of special optical components for OEM applications. If you need laser quality prism components, Republic Lens Optical Products, Inc. can manufacture a wide variety of prisms and other components with excellent deliveries and at competitive prices. For further details, please contact one of our Applications Engineers.
SYNTHETIC FUSED SILICA RIGHT ANGLE PRISMS

These right angle prisms are made from UV grade synthetic fused silica.

A very high prism transmission can be achieved by using the hypotenuse face in total internal reflection (TIR) and by AR-coating the entrance and exit faces.

Since the index of synthetic fused silica is a little lower than that of other optical material, the critical angle for TIR is greater. Therefore, the hypotenuse face is coated with a metallic reflective coating. Notice that the aluminized hypotenuse is covered with black paint which is acetone soluble.

The right angle prisms in this series all have entrance and exit faces of identical size and shape. All edges are lightly beveled and triangular faces are fine ground. In order to request coating options, add appropriate coating number from the coating section.
SPECIFICATIONS: FUSED SILICA RIGHT ANGLE PRISMS

Dimensions: ±0.1mm
Angles: 30 seconds of arc
Flatness: 1/8 wave at 6328Å
Material: UV grade synthetic fused silica
Bevel Width: 0.15mm to 1.0mm at 45°
Cosmetic Surface Quality: 60-40, scratch-dig
DOVE PRISMS

The dove prisms in this series are used as image rotators in a variety of optomechanical systems. When the prism is rotated, the image passing through will rotate at twice the angular rate of the prism. It is required that light entering the dove prisms must be parallel or collimated, because of the length of the prism. The hypotenuse face is unaluminized so it must be kept clean at all times.

On a special request basis, bare aluminum or internal silver may be coated on these prisms. An overcoating of black lacquer will be applied when these prisms are coated.

For these prisms, the clear aperture is square. Single-layer AR coatings and broadband antireflection coatings are available for the entrance/exit faces on request.

FUSED SILICA RIGHT ANGLE PRISMS
We also manufacture many glass Right Angle Prisms. Contact our Applications Engineers for further details.

DOVE PRISMS
We manufacture many types of Dove Prisms for original equipment manufacturers. Please contact our Applications Engineers for further details.
Antireflection coatings are also available for the entrance/exit face.

At Republic Lens Co., Inc., we maintain strict controls over angles and surface accuracy in manufacture. Roof and other edges are also lightly beveled to minimize any damage to the surface.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR SOLID GLASS RETROREFLECTORS
Dimensional: ±0.15mm
Deviation: 180 degrees to within 10 seconds of arc or less
Wavefront Distortion: < 1/4 wave at t = 6328Å
Material: BK-7 Grade A fine annealed glass
Coating Options: Entrance face can be coated with any anti reflective coating. Rear faces can be coated with internal silver for applications where the field angle becomes larger than the internal critical angle at the faces. See coating section.
Both surfaces can be coated with either single or multilayer dielectric coatings. Internal silver is standard on the reflecting surfaces. Please see the coating section.
ROOF PRISMS
All roof or Amici prisms deviate or deflect the image through an angle of 90°. The figure illustrates this effect upon the image. Fundamentally, the roof prism is a right-angle prism whose hypotenuse has been replaced by a 90° TIR roof. The roof prism is used when both right-angle deflection and image erection is demanded.
Basically, these prisms are sold uncoated, for use in TIR mode. If wide field application is desired, then the roof surfaces should be protected with aluminum or internal silver coatings. AR-coated entrance/exit faces are also available.

WEDGE PRISMS LASER BEAM-STEERING
These special prisms are used as beam-steering elements in optical systems. The deviation or deflection D of a ray in passing through a thin wedge or apex angle A (RADIANS) is approximately given by

D = (n - 1)A,

where n is the refractive index. The so-called power of a prism is measured in prism diopters, which is a deflection of 1cm at a distance of 1M from the prism. Therefore,

&Mac198; = 100 tan(D),

where &Mac198; is equal to the power of the prism.

When combining two wedges of equal power, in near contact, a ray passing through the combination can be steered in any direction within a certain narrow cone about the path of the undeviated ray.

Wedge prisms are often used for laser beam-steering and Schlieren system calibration.

Wedge prisms are available in alternative materials, such as UV Grade synthetic fused silica, and different shapes and sizes and antireflection coatings.
