Quality Control
The quality and performance of an optical component is dependent upon the kind of processing it receives in its grinding and polishing stages. Manufacturing procedures at Republic Lens Company are performed by modern and sophisticated machinery maintained to exact standards and operated by qualified personnel.
  • Republic is capable of producing tolerances of .3 seconds of angularity of planes and holding parallelism of plano surfaces to less than 1 second.
  • Spherical surfaces are initially developed with special radii generators and test gauges, and monitored through production with precision test plates that enable final tolerances to reach .1% of curvature between 2-25mm, and better than .5%-on larger radii.
  • Republic can obtain a flatness of plano surfaces or a uniformity of sphericity to 1/20 of a wave length in sodium light.
  • Centering is done on automatic LOH centering machines with tolerances as precise as 1 minute to 30 seconds. Other hand-centering machines are available for tolerances as close as 10 seconds.

Where stringent tolerances are specified for surface or performance, highly skilled opticians are available to meticulously hand polish optical components to very close limits. Over the years, Republic has developed many exact grinding techniques and precision polishing methods for all optical products so that standard or close tolerances on lenses, prisms and mirrors in single or compound forms and any shape can be uniformly, consistently and economically maintained.

All of the Republic Lens Company precision optical components are made to meet or exceed customer specifications-all meet (and generally exceed) the rigid MIL specs. Republic produces a broad spectrum of lenses, prisms, mirrors, and other components for use in the medical field, the complex lens systems of today’s space satellites, various military applications, original optical equipment, the laser field, and scientific research.

  • Republic offers coated or uncoated lenses both spherical and cylindrical-from 2mm for use in micro-optics to 500mm for large projection equipment-and are available as simple, achromatic, or apochromatic compound forms.
  • Prisms can be supplied ranging from the standard right angle or dispersion types to the more elaborate dove, Amici, pentaroof, rhomboid or corner cube. Compound prism assemblies such as cemented beamsplitters and color correcting reversion types are also available in any size and spectral variation to meet specialized requirements.
  • Front or rear-surfaced mirrors-both plano and spherical are produced ranging in size from 2mm to 300mm. Parabolic, cylindrical and Toroidal mirrors are manufactured according to customer specifications.

The Republic Lens Company, Inc. has the resources, the technology, and the craftsmanship to supply our customers with the wide diversity of plano and spherical optical components used in contemporary commercial or precision applications.
